Its major portion lies on Brazilian territory, with an extremely dense, wet and lush vegetation, and with an incomparable biodiversity. In this region, we can do boat and canoe tours, hike in the jungle, visit the meeting of the waters, among other options. Its main river, the Amazon River, has the largest freshwater volume in the world. Surfers can also delight in endless waves, the “Pororoca” (Tidal Bore), which happens when the river waters meets the ocean. MONTE RORAIMA

Monte Roraima MapWalking to the top of the mountain (2740m / 8890ft), located in the Monte Roraima National Park, takes at least two hiking days. This is, no doubt, one of the wildest and most amazing tours in all South America. The complete expedition, visiting many touristic sites, takes around seven days. This region is famous for its characteristic flat-top mountains, called “Tepuis”, which resemble the shape of a huge table. Most of the time it lies among the clouds, and its many waterfalls make it seem like it is crying. It has also an endemic and mysterious fauna and flora, that can only be found in this region, and has inspired many artists such as Michael Chrichton with “The Lost World“ and Pixar with the animated movie ”Up”.

JALAPÃO

Jalapão MapThe Jalapão State Park, recently created (2001), is already one of Brazil’s major ecotourism and adventure destinations. Its clear water rivers, waterfalls and lakes, huge sand dunes and the typical golden grass (main raw material for local handicrafts), are trademarks of the region. One of the best sites is the “Fervedouro”, a well of bubbling water where it is impossible to sink and feels like you are floating. Its beautiful “cerrado” vegetation is home to a varied flora and fauna. Long walks, 4x4 jeep tours and rafting are the main activities.

With wonderful bays, rocky bottom and sand beaches, the islands are an ecological paradise, where we can see many species of seabirds and terrestrial fauna. JERICOACOARA AND CEARÁ

Jericoacoara and Ceará MapThe Jericoacoara National Park, in Ceará State, brings tourists from all around the world, and is great for windsurfing, kitesurfing and sandboarding. There are also walking tours, buggy and 4x4 jeep rides, waves for surfers and an exciting nightlife, among other activities. It is a very beautiful place, with huge sand dunes, lagoons, rock formations, beaches and rustic villages. Its main economic activities are the tourism and the fishing. LENÇÓIS MARANHENSES

Lençóis Maranhenses MapLençóis Maranhenses National Park is located by the northeastern coast of Maranhão State. Its magnificent sand dunes, up to 50 meters / 165 feet high, and countless rainwater lakes, gives the place an atmosphere of oasis in the desert. Its landscape is always changing, due to the action of the winds. The lakes are excelent for swimming and very refreshing. The place is usually visitec by boat, going down the Preguiças river and stopping at many places of interest until it reaches the ocean, and also by 4x4 jeeps and walking. Down the river, there are villages where we can spend the night. There's also the panoramic flight option, that lasts around 30 minutes.

Serra dos Órgãos and Petrópolis MapThe Serra dos Órgãos National Park, famous for its spectacular rock formations, has amazing hiking and climbing possibilities. There are a few different options, from one-day tours to the famous two or three-day crossing, walking from Teresópolis to Petrópolis city and going through many mountains, overlooks and places of interest. The nights are spent on camping sites or shelters. Besides, as an extension of the Serra dos Órgãos tour, we offer the Petrópolis tour. Known as the “Imperial City”, it has rich historical, cultural and architectural attractions. It was also the place our imperial family used to spend their summers, for having a cooler climate, more similar to that of Europe.

ITATIAIA

Itatiaia MapItatiana National Park, just a couple of hours away from Rio, was the first region to be proclaimed a national park in the history of Brazil. There are two main hiking possibilities, the Prateleiras peak (2548m / 8360ft) and the Pico das Agulhas Negras (2791m / 9157ft), the highest peak in the state. The ascent to each of them, covered by typical altitude fields vegetation, takes around two hours, and rewards you with some of the most beautiful views of the state. The lower sector of the park has many unspoiled rivers, waterfalls, a lush vegetation and can be visited by car.

PICO DA BANDEIRA

Pico da Bandeira MapPico da Bandeira (2892m / 9488ft) is the highest peak in the Southeast Region and the third highest in Brazil. Located in the Serra do Caparaó National Park, in the border of Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais states, it offers amazing hiking and rewarding visuals. We usually start the ascent at night, so we can see the sun rising from the summit. The national park has also many other attractions, such as rivers, waterfalls, other peaks and a very beautiful and well preserved flora and fauna. IBITIPOCA

Ibitipoca MapThe Ibitipoca State Park, located in Minas Gerais, is famous for its beautiful landscapes, rivers, waterfalls and caves. It is one of the main ecotourism spots all over the southeastern region. Its most famous features are the “Circuito das Águas”, “Janela do Céu”, “Pico do Peão” and the tens of caves. The yellow-colored water is typical from this region. The vegetation varies according to the altitude. Bellow the park, there is a dense rainforest. Entering the reserve, we can see a beautiful “cerrado”, and at the upper parts, a high altitude grassland over a rocky soil.

SERRA DA CANASTRA

Serra da Canastra MapLocated in the Minas Gerais state, Serra da Canastra National Park is a great ecotourism and adventure destination. Full of waterfalls, it is also home for a typical fauna and many endangered species. The local flora is marked by a transition vegetation, showing traces from both the rainforests and the dryer “cerrado”. Though most of the tours are made by car, it is also excellent for hiking, acqua riding and cycling, and one of the best places in the world to see the Maned Wolf and the Giant Anteater, exotic and rare animals that inhabit this region.

CANYONS OF SERRA GAÚCHA

Canyons of Serra Gaúcha MapLocated in the chain of gigantic canyons on southern Brazil, the “Aparados da Serra” and “Serra Geral” national parks are covered with dense forests, large open fields and huge cliffs. If you seek adventure and ecotourism, this is a paradise. The most famous canyons are the “Itaimbezinho” and “Fortaleza”, and at their most, they are 720m / 2363ft deep, 2000m / 6562ft large and 5800m / 19029ft long. The place is perfect for hiking, with plenty of rewarding views. There is also the rafting possibility nearby.

Iguassu Falls MapDeclared a Natural Heritage of Mankind, the Iguassu Falls are located between two huge conservation areas covered by a beautiful subtropical forest, the “Parque Nacional Iguaçu” (Brasil) and the “Parque Nacional Iguazú” (Argentina). This natural wonder is formed by a 272 cascades complex, up to 82m / 270ft high, on the Iguazu River. Besides observing the whole place from the footbridges and belvederes, there’s also a boat tour option to the base of the waterfalls.
